Taekwondo Poomse are forms, which are intended to be performed following exact lines of movement in a systematic and consecutive way. When performing Poomse, students must consider direction of movement, stances and techniques. Poomse movements represent fighting against one or more imaginary opponents by using Taekwondo hand and foot, attacking and defensive techniques. Poomse practice helps to improve flexibility, strength, balance, breath control, focus and concentration of spirit, as well as cultivating martial art spirit through its mental discipline.
The WTF colour belt forms are Taegeuk 1 through 8. Additionally, there are nine black belt patterns: Koryo, Keumgang, Taebaek, Pyongwon, Sipjin, Jitae, Cheonkwon, Hansoo and Ilyo. All the patterns begin with a defensive blocking technique and are followed by counter attacks.
All Taegeuk movements are to be executed with speed, strength and precision while maintaining balance and concentration. Eyes need to be looking in the direction of movement.
|
The eight Taegeukk patterns are learned by students on their journey to black belt.
